STEP 1 - Submit the RIGHT Type of File
Note: Most instructors can only open WORD (.doc, .docx, .rtf), TEXT (.txt), HTML (.html), PDF (.pdf), JPG (.jpg), or GIF (.gif) files. Do NOT submit Works, WordPerfect, or Apple files.
Note that you can create a PDF file by using a free PDF generator tool like http://www.primopdf.com. So you could use whatever program you have to create your documents and then "print" to a pdf file - the "printing" process actually creates the PDF file which is almost like a photocopy.
You can submit image files in .JPG or .GIF format, but it is strongly recommended that you print them to a PDF using one of the free tools in the previous paragraph. The PDF file will be much smaller in size and will be much easier for you and the instructor to work with. So you could hand-write an assignment, scan it, and then print the scan to a PDF file. Algebra students have successfully used this method to hand write and submit assignments. If you use this method, try to get all work on one scanned page - otherwise you will have create and submit multiple files.
